The Weekly Roundup – Momentum’s Finest on Saturdays is a collection of my favorite blog posts, podcast episodes and other content that I’ve enjoyed over the recent week. The content will more than likely be from the latest week but might extend back a few weeks or months if it’s still new to me.
The content featured will follow similar themes to the topics shared on Making Momentum: Personal Finance, Side Hustles, Travel, Lifestyle and Health & Fitness.
Without further ado, let’s get into the Weekly Roundup – Momentum’s Finest on Saturdays VOL 2 [FEB. 24].
The Geography of Student Loan Debt in America a guest post by AccidentalFire on Millennial Money Man
An interesting guest post on Millennial Money Man’s site from AccidentalFire showcasing a great visual representation of the student loan debt in America. Check out the article and the map…it looks like a virus outbreak across the States. It’s full of anecdotes on the demographics, location and financial status of those holding student debt in America.
Spend Less or Earn More – Which Is Better? from Passive Income M.D.
The often pondered financial question of which prevails, spending less or earning more? This time Passive Income M.D. weighs the pros and cons from each perspective. In the ideal world you get a hybrid approach of each, making more and spending less…but spending more on the things you love.
Getting Rich Is About Will Power: Why Give Up When You Can Keep Going from Financial Samurai
Another great post from the Financial Samurai exploring the importance of self-control in building wealth. The post shares some studies around the psychology of delayed gratification and connects those to real-world financial situations with cars, houses and online businesses. This run of sentences really struck home: “Willpower means working for a couple hours on your side hustle before going to work at 7:30am for years instead of sleeping in. Self-control means not spending three hours watching TV or going down a social media rabbit hole and producing work instead.”
TFSA or RRSP – Which Is Better? from Dividend Earner
A Canadian piece of content here focusing on the two primary tax-free investing accounts: TFSA and RRSP. The post does a great job outlining the differences between the two accounts, compares different scenarios and steps to determine which is best for you. Plus the infographic is amazing!
Combining two posts here from The Frugal Toad relating to side hustling. Both are easy to digest but highly rooted in the foundation of entrepreneurship and side hustling in terms earning income through your own skills and expertise. Quick reads with actionable steps for each of the standalone posts.
This 2-Year-Old Has Already Been To 28 Countries from GoCurryCracker
A collection of photos from GoCurryCracker highlighting all the global travel their 2 year old son has already accomplished! This misconception of travel only been for empty nesters or childless adventurers couldn’t be more incorrect for this family. To see how I stacked up against this 2-year-old, I summed up my own country count to 16 total. He’s got me beat by a mile.
I Believe In Blogging from Do You Even Blog?
Oh boy, an epic monologue/manifesto from Pete McPherson on his belief, love and support for the art of blogging. It’s a powerful message and high quality piece of content – a big kudos to Pete on this one. Hard not to see Pete reaching his goals with this level of passion and conviction.
Don’t Compare Your Beginning To Someone Else’s Middle from Making Sense of Cents
This was a timely post from Michelle at Making Sense of Cents that was very relatable for me personally since I’ve just launched this new blog. Taking comparisons in a negative direction is easy to do in this day and age with everyone else’s lives, businesses and successes on display just a few clicks or swipes of a phone away.
Seems like a good place to share this quote:
“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.” – Steve Jobs.

From Financially Perfect to Rock Bottom (and Back Again) from BiggerPockets Money
Tiffany The Budgetnista joined the BiggerPockets Money show this week to tell her money story. It’s a unique story that I am sure many can relate to in terms of the peaks and valleys we might all hit in our financial lives. From the rock bottom of losing her home to the new heights of creating courses to help others with their finances and making life-changing money in the process, Tiffany is great guest.
A Real Money Strategy from Millennial Money Minutes
The latest episode from the Millennial Money & Distilled Dollar podcast duo focuses on having a real money strategy and how to build one. It’s short form but valuable discussion on thinking smarter, getting a broad understanding, improving your weaknesses and staying the course.
Rise Of The Young Entrepreneur from Smart Passive Income
Pat Flynn is joined by his friend and author of the recently released Rise of the Youpreneur, Chris Ducker. The discussion is much than a side hustle conversation but given Chris’ latest book release, I included it here. It’s a great listen as the two get deep on growth, success, legacy and a dozen other business focused topics.
From Personal Finance To Full-Time Blogger At Shopify from Do You Even Blog
Double feature for Pete and Do You Even Blog? Well deserved though. This was a great interview with Desirae Odjick of halfbanked.com, the Canadian personal finance blogger. They chatted about how her blog led her to a full-time content marketing role with Shopify.com, skill development for bloggers, digital media content and so much more. One of the best DYEB episodes yet!
How To Use The Comparison Game To Your Advantage from Fizzle
In a similar vein to the blog post above from Making Sense of Cents, this Fizzle podcasts too focuses on comparison. The Fizzle team touches on the same negativeness that can stem from the practice of comparison. However, they also apply a positive spin by leveraging the learnings, aspirations and road maps to success you can take from comparing to others.

A great episode from Jason at Zero To Travel as he shares the first 10 of his 20 Lessons From 20 Years Of Travel. Topics include the “why” to travel, the how to for cheaper, risk-taking, connecting with locals and best practices or tips from his global adventures. I am looking forward to Part Two!
Travelling With Purpose On The Cheap from Pour Not Poor
This podcast recently came on my radar as it combined two of my favourite things: personal finance and beer. In this episode Matt & Joel discuss travelling from the viewpoint first of “why do we travel” (the purpose) before breaking into some tactics to travelling for less cost.

The episodes share the best tips from the Healthline team on habits you can implement in the morning to assist you with losing weight. There’s nothing too intimidating here and all of the suggested tactics are easy to implement at a cost-effective rate.
