Weekly Roundup – Momentum’s Finest On Saturdays VOL 8 [APR. 7]
I hope you’ve had a great week and now your weekend will be full of some R&R, side hustling or whatever your heart desires. It’s still cold in Toronto and I am eagerly awaiting the turn of some spring weather.
Anyways, it’s been an exciting week for Making Momentum plus there was another round of amazing content created across the blog and podcast worlds.
So let’s get to it…
My Posts This Week
Per the normal posting schedule, two posts were published on Making Momentum this week. I had fun writing both of these and reflecting back on some past events and lifestyle choices.
- Walking To Work For 4 Straight Years – The Money, Health And Mind Benefits: over the last 4 years I’ve walked to work every single day. The same route, day in and day out. I reflected on some of the money, health and mind benefits I’ve received because of this in my Thursday post.
- 5 Easy Financial Wins I Had When Starting My Personal Finance Journey: at the start of my own money journey while trying to get on the right track with my finances, I had some easy wins. These helped get some momentum rolling from the beginning to keep me engaged and motivated.
Momentum’s Finest Newsletter & Giveaway
I’ve decided on the Monthly Giveaway for Newsletter subscribers for the month of April…the winner at the end of the month will receive an online course of their choosing from Udemy.
With that said, let’s get into the Weekly Roundup – Momentum’s Finest content for this week! We’ve got 12 blog posts (including some great guest posts) and 9 podcast episodes to highlight.
PERSONAL FINANCE BLOG POSTS
How The Pursuit Of FIRE Got Me A Girlfriend from The Mastermind Within on Budgets Are $exy
This was the best story I read this week…and it’s a true one! Involving two great bloggers (and seemingly great people) – Erik at The Mastermind Within and Gwen at Fiery Millennials. Erik wrote this guest post on Budgets Are $exy to tell how his pursuit of FI allowed him the flexibility to take a risk. What risk is that? Flying to Las Vegas for a second date. Click the link and just read this. Personal and authentic but also featuring tips and advice to secure that freedom.
The 5 Reasons People Don’t Talk About Money And How To Overcome It from Mustard Seed Money
Plenty of topics are considered taboo for everyday discussion, one of those remains money. Mustard Seed Money explores the reasons as to why this holds true in our society. The 5 reasons listed are definitely consistent to my personal experiences and interactions. Since getting connected with members of the PF/FI community that has definitely shifted but the advice shared on how to overcome this taboo are: talk to successful people around you and including your children. Have you broken through the taboo of money talk in your life?
11 Punchable Financial Offenses According To Me from The Frugal Gene
This was quite the enjoyable post by Lily at The Frugal Gene! Finances are serious business and sometimes certain mistakes or offenses might deserve a punch in the face. Whether it’s mooching, being dishonest with loved ones, scamming, judging or one of the other, a good knock to the nose may be in order. Happy to say I’ve never committed one and don’t plan too. If anyone has ever deserved to be punched in the face in your money life, let me know in the comments!
The Wisdom Of Financial Independence Without Retiring Early from Think Save Retire
Steve at Think Save Retire should just be in here every week. The dude can write. Period. This post published yesterday was the perfect read for me as I stressed about work while taking a few minutes to myself when eating lunch. I flew through it once and then read it again, so many quick hitting takeaways and thoughts to get my mind running. This quote is what is really inspiring me on my own path to eventual FI (a long way to go), “whether you like your job or not – or plan to retire early or not, the instant that financial independence is achieved, your life changes”.
Christopher Guest Post – Distilled Dollar from Physician On FIRE
Joining Physician on Fire for this blog interview is Matt from Distilled Dollar. I’ve been a blog follower and podcast listener of Matt for over a year now, great content and a great guy. This interview is stuffed with financial goodness. Matt’s backstory, investing and retirement strategies, links to 11 of Matt’s best posts (for even further reading) and so much more, all framed within the unique and fun structure of a PoF interview.

I thought this post by Jamaica from Dollar Sprout was a nice addition in conjunction with Olivia’s 150+ smart side hustle posts above. This Dollar Sprout post features a few passive income idea related “side hustles” that weren’t in Olivia’s master list. Add them both together and you have 163+ ideas to earn extra income. Time to take action and push those revenue streams further! I am currently trying to take in as much information as I can on dividend investing.
